WORSHIP WITH US THIS SUNDAY!! – 10:30 am in-person, on our Worship page, or on YouTube. We hope to see you there!
Our Rooted confirmation small group wrapped up a year of Old Testament study and discussion this May, and we are thankful for a year of growing together! For the first time since 2020, we offered confirmation for our middle school & high school students, and we had a group of seven students and four leaders who met for over 20 sessions during this past school year.
Our focus was on moving through God’s story in the Old Testament, looking for themes in the lives of God’s people, and examples of truth and faithfulness as revealed through God’s character. From Genesis to the prophets, we engaged in conversation, wrestled with questions, and discovered that the God of the Old Testament is still active in our lives today.
For their final project, students were asked to choose a Bible story and present it in a creative way to our small group members and their families. At the end of April, we met in the Life Center before worship to see what the students had created and hear what they had learned. We were blessed with the re-telling of God’s story through artwork, Lego, comic strip, pictures, and even baked goods! As each student shared a final project, we also witnessed how faith had grown and how stories of God’s people from the past were still speaking God’s love and truth into lives today.
We concluded our year with a retreat this past Sunday, where we spent a longer time sharing a meal, remembering what we had learned, and looking forward to all that we will continue as we study the New Testament next year.
Our Rooted confirmation small group will continue to be offered each school year, and students who are in 7th grade or older can join us each September. Our curriculum follows a 2-year cycle, but students can start with either the Old or New Testament. When students complete 2 years of small group participation, they will have the opportunity to be confirmed as part of a worship service in the spring. We look forward to celebrating our first group in worship next year!
