Come Let Us Adore Him

2025-12-16 | Meghan McClellan

As Christmas approaches, the world around us rushes once more into its familiar patterns—lights strung on rooftops, gifts wrapped in haste, calendars filled with gatherings. These customs may bring us joy, but they cannot by themselves lead us to the heart of Christmas. As George Whitefield reminds us, no outward observance, however beautiful, can awaken the soul to worship. Only a true contemplation of Christ’s coming can do that.

For Christmas is not chiefly a season to be kept, but a miracle to be marveled at: the eternal Son of God taking on flesh for us and for our salvation.

Let’s pause and consider this staggering truth. He who was “in the beginning with God” entered time. He who spoke light into darkness allowed Himself to be wrapped in the darkness of a virgin’s womb. The One whom angels adore took on the frame of an infant—weak, dependent, vulnerable. The Lord of endless glory stooped to dwell among sinners, not as a visiting monarch, but as one of us.

So this Christmas Eve, we invite you to step away from the noise and draw near to the wonder. Come—not merely to maintain a tradition—but to behold the humility of Christ. See the King who traded a throne for a cradle. Consider the Lamb who came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many. Let your heart be softened again by the love that moved God to descend so low in order to lift us so high.

And as we contemplate His humility, may we also consider our response. True celebration of Christmas is not found in outward festivity, but in inward adoration—bowing our hearts before the One who bowed Himself to us. It is found in worship, repentance, gratitude, and joyful surrender to the Savior who came to rescue, redeem, and restore.

This Christmas Eve at The Grove, let us gather as a people hungry not for tradition but for truth—eager to behold the glory of God wrapped in human flesh.
