Lent 2026

2026-2-10 | Kate Cogswell

Lent Begins Next Week on February 18!

Lent offers an invitation to everyone to draw closer to God. Lent is a time for personal and corporate reflection on the life-changing reality of a relationship with Jesus. It is a season of transformation.

We who call The Grove Covenant Church home are on a journey. As a community of people who have come to know Jesus and desire to follow him, our prayer is that we are becoming more and more like Jesus—formed and shaped by his life, teaching, death, and resurrection—and that Jesus in and through us will speak to and transform our community and our world.

The purpose of observing the Lenten season is not to force a few formal obligations, but to soften our hearts, to be more open to God, and to experience deeper communion with Him. It’s an invitation to turn – or return – to God with our whole heart.

The Lent season, from Ash Wednesday through Easter, mirrors the 40 days Jesus spent in the wilderness at the beginning of his ministry where he fasted, prayed, and triumphed over the temptations of Satan. We are invited to remember and focus on Christ’s life, ministry, sacrifice, and resurrection during the season of Lent. We do this because His incarnation, his life, his death, and his resurrection give us a blueprint for our lives and relationships, and our walk with God.

During the season of Advent, we focused on the beauty and power and profound impact of Christ’s Incarnation on us and the cosmos in which we live. The wonder of this singular Christmas Event doesn’t stop there. The Incarnation—the birth of Christ in our midst as one of us—is an ongoing reality meant to continually shape our lives, our way of being in the world, and how we pursue God’s purposes in the world as a community of faith.

We are learning Christ was not only our Savior; Christ was our Prototype.

One thing we are learning through our series on Philippians is that Jesus IS our Prototype.

As we move into the season of Lent together, we will continue our journey through Paul’s letter to the Philippians. Our desire is for us to grow further in how having Jesus as our prototype impacts how we live.

During Lent, we invite you to continue exploring and going deeper by participating as a church family through our Lenten text prompts.

When you sign up to participate, you will receive texts on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday throughout Lent with invitations to explore Paul’s retelling of Jesus’ Incarnation, suffering, death, resurrection, and exaltation in various ways. We encourage you to join us even if you are unsure of the level of commitment you can make. As always we encourage you to engage in spiritual practices as you can, not as you can’t. God always meets us where we are.

To participate, text LENT to 765-544-5999 or email the office.

Together may we grow to know more and more how, in humility, the Son of God served us and saved us and showed us the way to go and how to walk in his footsteps.
